 Muskego Melee at LDMS Tournament

On Saturday the MSCC hosted our own tournament at LDMS, run by the IAC.  While the turnout was lower than we had hoped for, it was run very well and we had a great time!  Our players represented their schools and our club with great sportsmanship!!

This was also a fundraiser for the club -  Huge thanks to LDMS and Nikki Kamperschroer for taking her time to be there with us!  Also big thanks to all of our volunteers who helped set up and take down the tables/chairs, donated concessions and ran it during the event!

K8 non rated

This was the biggest section of the tournament, and it was the first one for a number of our players.  Congratulation to Lukas, Howard, Waylon, Brixton, Emmett and Garrick for playing in their first tournament!!  They did great, and took a lot of good notation as well, which will really help them to improve!

Lukas took 4th place, Emmett took 5th,  Mia took 6th, Will took 7th and Jace took 8th - everyone had 3 wins (order based on tie breakers). Ashton also had 3 wins.

Erik, Howard, Waylon, Brixton, Henri and Garrick played some great games as well.

The Lake Denoon team of Mia, Erik Ashton, and Emmett took the first place trophy!

The Mill Valley team of Lukas, Howard, Waylon and Henri took the 3rd place trophy!

K8 Rated

Mason took 6th place with 3 wins and Gavin took 12th with 2 wins.

Together they took the 2nd place team trophy for the club!

K12 rated

This section did not have many players so unfortunately our players had to play each other, which normally doesn't happen.  Nevertheless they played some very good long games.

Quinn took 1st place going 4 out of 4!  Anthony took 3rd place w/ 2 wins.  Jack took 4th, Luke took 5th, Josh took 6th and Emily took 7th.

University School Milwaukee - IAC Tournament

We brought 9 players to the USM tournament on Saturday - for 5 of them it was their first tournament which is awsome!

It was a well run tournament by the IAC and our players did a great job!

Mason was our only player in this section, but this was his break out day and he dominated!  He went 5-0, taking home the first place trophy!!  In the process, he beat 3 players above his own rating level and will easily get the purple wristband!  Way to go Mason!

K8 non rated

For 4 of our 5 players this was their first tournament!  I was impressed with how well they adapted and took good notation!  Everyone demonstrated great sportsmanship and I'm confident their skills improved because of this tournament!

Henri is in first grade in his first tournament and got two draws!  Dominic had two wins, Jace has three and Will also had three, taking home the 7th place trophy!  For those three it was their first tournament!  Mia played some strong games, taking 2-1/2 out of 5!

Kudos to Emily for playing in her first tournament!  This is a very competitive section to play in for anyone, let alone the first time!  Jack had a good day with 2 of 4 wins, and Luke had another very good tournament with 3 of 4 wins and took the 5th place trophy!  Together the group took the 3rd place team trophy!

Next up -  Muskego Melee at Lake Denoon on Dec 7th!

 Medical College Tournament

This weekend we attended the IAC-run tournament at the Medical College campus in Tosa, which is always a nice event and a good fundraiser.  It was a smaller group - about 40 players - but still very competitive.

We brought 5 players to this event:

Mia and Eric played in the K8 not rated section.  Eric took 5th place and Mia took 4th and together they took the 2nd place team trophy for Lake Denoon

Anthony, Jack and Luke played in the K12 USCF rated section.  Anthony took 5th place (tie breakers all the way to 2nd) with 3 out of 4 wins.  Jack took 8th place with 2 out of 4 and Luke had 1 out of 4.  Together they took the 2nd place trophy for Muskego High School. For a smaller section (14 players) it was amazing how competitive it was!

Great job to all!

MSCC brought just 3 players to the IAC opening tournament on Saturday, hosted by Brookfield East High School.  While it was a smaller event (only about 50 players) we still had fun and played some good games!

K8 non rated - Mia played in this section and took 2 of 5 and a 3rd place trophy!

K8 rated - Congratulations to Gavin (GB) for playing in his first tournament ever and going right to the rated section, which had quite a bit of competition.  He played well and is looking forward to the next!

K12 rated - Luke had a great day, taking 3 of 4 and missing the 4th by the narrowest of margins.  He took home a 3rd place trophy in a very competitive section!

2024 WI State Scholastic Championships at UW Oshkosh

On Saturday the MSCC brought just 4 players to our year end event held at UW Oshkosh, which was run by the IAC.  It was very well run for a busy one day event that had close to 300 players in K5, K8 and K12 (plus another 100 players in the K12 team format event).

K8

Mia had 2 wins on the day, Mason had 2-1/2 wins and Anthony led the way with 4 wins and an 11th place finish (actually tied for 6th place) !

K12

Luke had 3 points for the day - 2 wins & 2 draws

Everyone played some very good rounds and had some good competition as well.

It was a great way to finish the year, officially for the club, anyway.  There are a couple other events still going on in April for anyone who wishes to join (I'll forward emails).

Looking forward to seeing everyone in fall!

 Midwest Regional Championships

...were held at UW Milwaukee campus on Saturday.  This is a new event that was run by both the IAC and WSCF, thus having both WSCF sections and USCF rated sections.  This tournament brought in close to 200 players and should only get bigger in the coming years.

The MSCC brought 5 players to the event and our teams did VERY well, bringing home many trophies.

Our 5 players were in 3 different sections, as you'll see below, and we took 1st place in every one of those sections!  I don't recall having done that before, so this turned out to be a very nice event for our club!

WSCF U900

  • In this section we had Mason and Austin.  Austin took 3.5 out of 5 and finished in 9th place.  Mason went 5 for 5 and took the first place trophy!
USCF U800
  • Anthony and Grant played in this section.  Grant had two points, and Anthony took 4.5 out of 5 and took the first place trophy!  In addition, the team of Anthony & Grant took the 2nd place trophy!
USCF U1200
  • Quinn was our only player in this section and he took 4 out of 5 and also took the first place trophy!

Great job to everybody!!
