 Muskego Melee !

Today we hosted our very own tournament, run by the IAC, at Lake Denoon Middle School.  We had a great turnout of 71 players and our own club brought 25 players across 4 sections.

This was also our biggest annual fundraiser and couldn't have been done without so many great volunteers & donations, including:

- Lake Denoon, for allowing us to have the event
- Generous donations from Kreusers, Rivas, and all who brought bake sale items
- Wonderful parents who ran the concessions, helped in the team room, and helped w/ set up and clean up

And now the results!

  • Austin also took 4 out of 5, earning his RED wrist band and finishing in 3rd place!  Amazingly this was Austin's first official tournament with our club!

2023 WI State Scholastic Championship results!

Last weekend our club brought 9 players to UW Oshkosh Reeve Union to play in this statewide event that was very well run by the International Academy of Chess.  It was a huge event w/ well over 500 players over 4 sections that lasted for 6 matches over 2 days.

We had a lot of fun and our players represented their schools and our club very well!

  • Mia and Sawyer played in this division.  Mia took 2-1/2 points and Sawyer took 4, finishing 15th (out of 105 players) and just missing the trophies
K8
  • Evelyn had 2 wins, as did Dean.  Anthony took 4-1/2 and finished 16th (out of 139 players), just missing out on trophies, but still had a great tournament
JV
  • Quinn took 4-1/2 and finished in 9th place (out of 116) and continued his high level of play over the past few tournaments!  Josh took 3 points (2 wins and 2 draws).  Luke took 4-1/2 points in one of his best recent tournaments, finishing in a tie for 10th place, and Andy took 5 points (4 wins and 2 draws) and finished in 7th place!
  • The team of Andy, Luke and Josh tied for a 6th place team finish!

It was nice to once again see our club represented well and playing well in such a big tournament!

This past weekend our club went to UW Milwaukee campus to play in the annual Grade Level Tournament!  We brought 9 players spanning 1st through 10th grades and had a lot of fun!

This was a very large tournament with 340 players!

Grade 1

  • Dawson had a very good day in his very first tournament, with 2 wins and 2 draws out of 5 rounds, taking 9th place!  Great job!
Grade 5
  • Mia was our only player in 5th grade and she took 2 wins
Grade 6

McKinley Elementary School Tournament / IAC

On Saturday the MSCC brought 11 players to McKinley for a tournament that was run by the IAC.  It was a great turnout w/ over 130 players in 4 sections!

K3 UNR

  • Sammy was our only player in this section, but he had a very good day, taking 3 out of 5 and just missing out on the awards
K5 UNR
  • Mia & Sawyer were our two players in this section.  Mia had a good day with 2 of 5 wins, and Sawyer had a truly awesome day taking all 5 wins and bringing home a first place trophy!  He also earned his red wrist band in the process!
K12 UNR
  • It's unusual to have an unrated section for K12, and we had quite a range of players and schools in this section, ranging from 6th - 12th grades.
  • Our team was made up of Evelyn, Mason, Grant, Anthony, Steven and Preston.  Everyone had at least 2 wins which was really great!
  • Preston, actually playing in his first tournament took 3 wins and an 8th place trophy
  • Steven took 3-1/2 wins and a 5th place trophy
  • Anthony took 4 wins and a 3rd place trophy!
  • The entire team took home the first place trophy for Muskego!
K12 rated
  • Luke & Josh represented this section. Luke took 1-1/2 out of 4 and Josh took 3 out of 4, not easy to do!
Our team represented the club very well and took home some nice trophies!  Great job by all!

Bethune Academy / IAC Tournament Results

Four MSCC players joined the first tournament ever held at Bethune Academy in Milwaukee and we had a great time!  The venue worked out very well and the tournament was well run by the IAC

K4 rated

  • Sawyer was our only player in this section - he played well taking 2 out of 5 and a 6th place individual trophy!
K8 non rated
  • Dean and Evelyn joined this section.  Dean played well, taking 2 of 5 and Evelyn had a very good day, taking 4 of 5, earning her red wrist band and a 2nd place individual trophy!
K12 rated
  • Quinn was our only player in this section and he had a great day, taking 3-1/2 out of 4 and bringing home a first place individual trophy, and even a 3rd place team trophy!
I was most impressed by our good sportsmanship and notation taking (almost all games), which helped us review the games in between rounds.

Nice job to all!

Horizon Elementary / IAC Tournament January 21st

The MSCC brought 6 players to this event yesterday.  Tournament participation has been down this year in general, but this event brought in 80 players so there was a lot of good competition for all!

It was a very well run event and we had a lot of fun, and took home some trophies too!

K8 unrated

  • Logan, Sophia, Dean and Evelyn played in this section. Everyone won at least 2 games, and the team of Logan, Sophia and Dean took the 3rd place trophy for Lake Denoon!  And on this team, Logan lead the way with 4 out of 5 wins and took the 6th place individual trophy, also earning his red wrist band!
K8 rated
  • Anthony was our lone player in this section and had a great tournament, as he often does, taking 4 out of 5 wins and taking the 3rd place individual trophy!
K12
  • Luke was our lone player in this very competitive section and took 1-1/2 out of 4 points on the day.  It's always interesting that these are such long games for K12- even though only 4 rounds are played, this section finished hours after the K8 section had left.
Congratulations to all for playing some really nice games and for representing our club well.
